A Pro-Life Reflection
Our society becomes very upset and defensive when an animal is mistreated or killed, and so we should be. At the moment our children are being born or any other time before their birth, these children can be killed for no reason other than choice----not the child's choice but ours. Hardly anyone notices or feels uncomfortable.
What is wrong with this picture?
Society doesn't allow us to be too upset over an unborn child's death. If we are, someone might think we are being radical. If we are brave enough to go out to an abortion clinic to pray; we are to be careful to keep off the grass, stand on the edge of the sidewalk and remember to be pleasant.
A few years ago, while doing all of the above, I had an encounter with a homeless man. Everything about him was filthy except His eyes. He had the cleanest, clearest, most beautiful and most intelligent blue eyes that I had ever seen. I never forgot His eyes. I have always believed that He was Jesus.
On another occasion, our Pro life group was out at still another abortion clinic here in Dallas. My job was to stand there and pray. Others were to offer our help. We are very organized and very law abiding. But this isn't a job for the faint hearted. (We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.)
As we stood there, a couple went past me I was standing on the edge of the sidewalk - not blocking any thing or anybody. The couple passed 6 inches in front of me. I could see the pores of the young girl's skin. It was a father and his daughter. There was a huge family resemblance Both were very good looking people, very nicely dressed and very middle class.
The beautiful young girl was crying. I saw the same blue eyes as that of the homeless man Tears were flowing from her eyes. She could hardly walk. Every time she stopped walking her father would come up from behind her and give her a very determined, hard shove. He continued this action until he had shoved her past us and all the way into the abortion clinic. The father was so very angry, the girl was so very sad. Tears were streaming down her face so much so that she could have drowned.
Life can be so very sad and so very cruel and the prices that we pay, so very high. I wonder if the girlever forgave her father. I wonder if the father ever forgave his daughter.
I would just say that if this horrific and unloving act could happen to this beautiful family, it could happen to any of us.
The issue of life is so big and so complex.....We can't do everything. We have to ask God what He wants our attitude to be and what He would have us do as individuals. We have all been given jobs to do by God. He has a plan for our lives. Scripture says that even in our old age we are to bear fruit. I believe that God takes this life that He has given to us very seriously---- from conception until our natural death. Our lives are not just for us and our personal happiness. He wants to be first in our lives and
for us to live-------for Him-----for God. We are to do His work. As children of God, we have to take a stand for life.
